If Apple Is A Strong Buy, These 5 Chip Stocks Also Should Be Strong Buys [View article]
In the end, semis are not expected to come roaring back until 2013 and given the cycle smoothing, the cycle down is not very bad so the cycle up may also be subdued compared to the old semi days when a semi stock would crash 75% on the downside and rise 400% on the upside.

If anything NFC is the only super growth driver right now.

It is always best to do due diligence. I currently own NXPI and am a big believer in NFC. Recently the stock is down due to rumors Apple was going to use NFC but then said it will not use NFC on their new iPhones, then Apple will use Qualcomm for NFC. There is so much speculation on this even though NXPI's story has nothing to do with Apple adopting it. It already has over 70% of the NFC market.

NUAN looks good. They do have competitors but they are still the market leader in this very fast growing field. Their moving to a subscription model is good and necessary in the long term and their earnings were no worse than last year even on the transition. The subscription model allows companies to gain exponential growth similar to Apple when it did subscription business with mobile phones. As IBM uses them as their voice recognition partner I believe they will remain on top for now. It would be nice if Google worked with them rather than try to go it alone. Perhaps eventually they will.
ATML is good as long as the semi sector keeps booming. A cyclical downturn is expected next year so avoid any semi that doesn't have strong non-traditional growth. Right now I only recommend NXPI because NFC growth will be healthy regardless of a semiconductor downturn and could even help them lower their costs.
Cisco is a traditional large cap stock, neither good or bad. It has been in a rut and I don't see why it should fare worse or better than the general market.
I have found this post to be very level headed even though I don't ascribe to all the picks. Good luck to the poster and thanks for your views.
